Tepezza Hearing Loss Lawsuits

Did you take Tepezza, which is used to treat thyroid eye disease (TED)? Did you start to lose your hearing or start suffering from tinnitus not long after? There could be a direct connection between Tepezza and your hearing loss, which can warrant legal action.

Robert Peirce & Associates, P.C. in Pittsburgh is currently investigating Tepezza lawsuits. We want to hear from you if you think that you lost your hearing due to using Tepezza. It might be possible to file a claim against Horizon Pharmaceuticals, the maker of Tepezza, or join a class action lawsuit against this Big Pharma company.

Let’s talk about your potential Tepezza hearing loss claim. Call (844) 383-0565 or send us an email now.

What is Tepezza?

Tepezza (teprotumumab) is meant to treat thyroid eye disease (TED). It gained Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval in 2020 for this intended purpose. Currently, it is the only drug available in the country to treat TED, so it understandably has a large share of the market when it comes to TED treatment and alleviation.

Is Tepezza Dangerous?

When Tepezza was undergoing clinical trials, internal documents showed that upwards of 10% of users suffered some form of hearing issue. Further research in 2021, a year after the drug hit the market, suggested this percentage should be as high as 65%.

The hearing issues that have been linked to Tepezza use include:

  • Tinnitus: About 27% of Tepezza users in a safety study developed tinnitus or a constant or near-constant ringing of the ears. It is not known how many of those cases were permanent.
  • Hearing loss: Nearly 25% of Tepezza users have reported hearing loss or a noticeable reduction of hearing acuity without deafness. For some, stopping the use of Tepezza gradually restored their hearing acuity.
  • Deafness: An inexact but assumedly small percentage of Tepezza users are believed to have suffered temporary or permanent deafness in at least one ear due to side effects of the drug.

Why Could Horizon Pharmaceuticals Be Liable?

The lawsuits forming against Horizon Pharmaceuticals for Tepezza side effects allege that the Big Pharma company should have known that the drug could cause hearing loss yet did nothing to warn medical professionals and users. If the company’s own clinical trials concluded that there was a 10% chance of some type of hearing loss, then it is reasonable to expect that the drug will include a hearing loss warning on its packaging. Yet there is no such warning label on Tepezza.

If Horizon Pharmaceuticals knew or should have known about the hearing loss risk but failed to warn users, then it could be found negligent in its duty to patients and the public. This negligence is the foundation of the claims and lawsuits because it can make the company liable for the damages suffered by the drug’s users.

Qualified Tepezza Lawsuit Plaintiffs

You might qualify as a Tepezza hearing loss lawsuit plaintiff if you meet these conditions:

  • You used Tepezza as prescribed and at least more than once.
  • You suffered hearing problems while taking Tepezza or shortly after discontinuing its use.
  • Your doctor diagnosed your hearing problems officially in your medical record.
  • You required treatment for your hearing problems or are still experiencing them.

Finding out if you could qualify to file a Tepezza hearing loss lawsuit can be complicated based on the unique details of your situation. It is best to work with a Tepezza attorney for clear answers, like our team here at Robert Peirce & Associates, P.C.

Has a Tepezza Lawsuit Gone to Trial?

At this point, no Tepezza lawsuits have gone to trial for a jury verdict. Neither have such lawsuits been settled yet. Horizon Pharmaceuticals is insistent that Tepezza is safe for its intended use, so it should not be held liable for any damages related to hearing loss. This defense is made even as the company acknowledges that Tepezza could likely cause hearing loss or tinnitus in some users.

The lack of Tepezza verdicts and settlements is not necessarily bad, though. It means that the case is still open for investigation and arguments and that attorneys can still accept new Tepezza lawsuits clients. If you think you have a claim, then this is the right time to act.
