Attorney David A. Martin (Dave) always knew he wanted to use his skills to help people. As the son of two nurses, Dave had early exposure to the healthcare field and originally thought he would follow in his parents’ footsteps and become a nurse. He enrolled in the nationally ranked nursing program at Waynesburg University. After three semesters in the program, Dave realized that bedside nursing was not for him. However, having done a clinical rotation in a nursing home where he provided hands-on care to long-term care residents, he was drawn to assisting the sick, injured, and elderly. At that point, Dave endeavored to go to law school and become a medical malpractice attorney, realizing that he could help people in a different way while still using much of what he learned in nursing school.
Dave attended Duquesne University Kline School of Law, where he competed in multiple national mock trial competitions as part of Duquesne’s renowned Trial Advocacy program. In law school, Dave was awarded the International Academy of Trial Lawyers Student Advocacy Award. He was nominated as a member of The Order of Barristers in recognition of his achievement in trial practice, evidence, oral advocacy, and civil procedure. While in law school, Dave joined Robert Peirce & Associates as a law clerk. In 2020, he became an associate attorney with the firm after passing the bar exam. Dave remains involved in the Trial Advocacy program at Duquesne Kline, serving as a trial coach and assisting students in the development of their trial skills.
Just as Dave had to learn every aspect of a patient’s condition, treatment, and care during his rotations in nursing school, he now uses the same approach with his clients. He primarily handles nursing home and medical malpractice cases, helping people and their families traverse difficult situations caused by a medical provider’s neglect. The in-depth understanding of the standard of care he learned as a nursing student is especially useful in handling these cases. Dave’s practice also centers around assisting clients in employee benefit plan disputes.
Dave grew up in South Park and currently resides in Murrysville with his wife, Tara, and their Bernedoodle, Bailey. As a lifelong Pittsburgher and former college football player, he enjoys watching the Steelers and attending sporting events. His years playing football sharpened his competitive nature, which helps him do the best work possible for his clients during litigation of their cases.
