Whatever decisions you make with regard to medical treatment for your mesothelioma, maintaining emotional health, a positive mental outlook, and spiritual well-being, you will have to take responsibility for yourself.
Experience in Helping Those with Mesothelioma Cope
Having handled thousands of asbestos cancer and mesothelioma lawsuits over the last two decades, we at Robert Peirce & Associates, P.C., have had the good fortune to work for many wonderful and inspiring human beings. In the process, we have seen a number of different coping strategies work for victims and for their family members as well. Here are just a few:
- Take it one day at a time. Yes, it may be a cliché but like all clichés — it became so widely used simply because it works. By focusing on today, and on what you can do in the present moment — even the most overwhelming problems in life can become manageable.
- Stay connected. No matter how much you may feel otherwise, no one is ever truly alone in this world unless they choose to be. By continuing to engage yourself with loved ones, with friends, and with the world-at-large — to the extent you can — you may be surprised at what you receive in return.
- Join a support group. Although mesothelioma-only support groups are rare, cancer support groups are not. Joining one of these groups and staying focused on what you have in common with other cancer sufferers rather than on what you do not, can provide much relief, perspective and the opportunity to focus on how you can help others — the best medicine there is.
