Property owners who wish to appeal their real estate assessment for 2025 will now have from August 1, 2024 to October 1, 2024, to do so, or they will miss the opportunity to have their assessments lowered.

PITTSBURGH, PA (July 26, 2024) - Bob Peirce, Jr., a renowned expert in tax assessment law, is raising awareness about a significant amendment to the Allegheny County tax laws. This amendment, which took effect on June 6, 2024 was the result of a unanimous vote by Allegheny County, PA, officials to change the time to appeal your 2025 property tax assessment. You may appeal your 2025 property tax assessment from August 1, 2024 until October 1, 2024.

Despite the importance of this modification, the information has not been adequately communicated to the public. While the county has posted the details on its website, the update is not prominently featured, leaving many unaware of the new deadline unless they specifically search for it.

Bob Peirce, Jr. has been successfully representing Allegheny County property owners through the appeal process for over 50 years. He expressed his concern, stating, "For over 50 years, the timeframe to file a tax assessment appeal for that year started on January 1 and ended on March 31. I believe that people who are unaware of the recent change will attempt to file an appeal in January and be turned down. No one should be caught by surprise."

This change will officially go into effect on Thursday, August 1, 2024. Allegheny County property owners who wish to appeal their real estate assessment for 2025 will now have only two months to do so, or they will miss the opportunity to have their assessments lowered.
